While progress has been made in recent years to create new test procedures for energy efficiency and enhance existing procedures, opportunities exist to more accurately measure the efficiency of lighting, HVAC, and whole buildings at the systems level. Further, new hybrid technologies and connected products are emerging that require enhanced test methods. During this session, a NEMA representative will describe how NEMA is working to make systems efficiency and connected functionality a standard consideration in the marketplace. In particular, the commercial lighting industry has been actively working through NEMA's Lighting Division to make lighting system standards, including metrics for lighting system energy performance, a reality. A panel of lighting industry representatives will describe why the industry came together to form an ANSI lighting systems standards committee, the market objectives they came together to address, progress over the last three years, and the  implications for the industry in the future.
