Abstract

In support of the CEE High Efficiency Commercial Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Initiative ("CEE Initiative"), the 2019 CEE Overview of Commercial Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps Programs in the United States and Canada ("Overview") characterizes CEE member voluntary efficiency programs aimed at reducing energy consumption from commercial air conditioning and heat pump systems that were active in in 2019. The focus of this document is prescriptive incentives for air conditioning and heat pump equipment, system accessories, and maintenance. The Overview provides CEE staff analysis of the data collected, identifying CEE member program administrators participating in the CEE Initiative, and highlighting member program content, direction, and trends that can help inform future CEE Initiative direction.

The Overview provides data on 110 member programs including 53 CEE member initiative participants with a variety of fuel types, including electric only (51 percent) and combined or fuel-neutral (39 percent), and natural gas only (10 percent) that offer some type of commercial air-conditioning or heat pump measure(s), representing 33 US states and one Canadian province; 52 of the 53 participants are US members serving a total of more than 5.1 million commercial customers (38 percent of all commercial electric customers in the US). CEE member initiative participants also represent a variety of organizational types, including investor owned utilities (IOUs) (71 percent), municipal utilities and co-ops (12 percent), state government organizations (3 percent), federal entities (12 percent), and nonprofit organizations (2 percent).

The Summary tab includes information on CEE member program administrators' 2019 commercial air conditioning and heat pump incentive offerings, and may not be inclusive of all CEE member incentive offerings for commercial air conditioning and heat pump equipment and system components. Check with individual CEE member programs for details.
